First Chief Minister of Maharashtra and also served as the defence minister, finance minister, home minister, foreign affairs minister, and as the Deputy Prime Minister of India and became the first and only person from Maharashtra to reach up to this political level.

Sadashivgad is another famous hill in Karad and is known for the Sadashivgad Fort situated on there. Fort was constructed by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Visitors can also explore a Shiva temple, which is very crowded on the Shravan Month & Monday. A fair is also organised in the month of Shravan every year which draws in a lots no. of devotees.

Vasantgad is situated @ 1.4 Km from Karad is known for its fort, temples and six piers, among others. The fort located in Vasantgad can be reached from the outskirts of this village.
The entrance of the fort has been destroyed and the tourists can view the idol of Lord Ganesha carved in the ramparts.

Koyna Dam is one of the largest dams in Maharashtra State. Dam is rubble-concrete dam constructed on Koyna River which rises in Mahabaleshwar in Sahyadri ranges. It is located in Koyna Nagar of Satara district, nestled in the Western Ghats on the state highway between Chiplun and Karad. Having a Hydro-Electric Project is the largest completed hydro-electric power plant in Country.
